Shooting Week to week

Dist. 700m 27/1/2024

Attendance was lower than usual for all clubs at Hornsby last Saturday, due to the Kings prize at the Anzac range, Malabar. Our club had 4 members competing in various disciplines.

Overcast conditions with little wind was ideal for high scoring at the club's 700 metre match. In Target rifle, Richard was back to his best with a 75.11 first stage followed by a perfect 50.10 in the second resulting in the highest target rifle score of the season. Richard was no doubt pleased after recently refitting his old Archer barrel which has fired in access of 7000 rounds.

Don Brook was consistent with a pair of 49's while Doug R-H came home strongly with a 50.2.

Don Law also returned to his best form leading the way in F class with a pair of well compiled 58's while Alan A had his new 6.5mm F open rifle performing as it should with a 116.

The Arn Hammond teams match was held on Saturday in generally overcast conditions from a distance of 6oo metres.

In Target Rifle, while JR and Evan both shot well with 74's as did young Angus in TR2, our teams have fallen further behind the Roseville Rottweilers. The Rottweilers lost 2 points only and now have a commanding lead in TR. They have dominated this years competition, top scoring each of the 4 ranges contested. I suspect they have taken this season quite seriously and have left us shooting for practice in the remaining 2 matches.

One could conclude that our F class teams are a little of the pace in competition terms but our selectors are always in the position of needing to mix and juggle to field each team. Under such circumstance our Open team, relying on the inclusion of F-Standard and  F-TR shooters, have done very well to trail Gosford overall by 9 points only. On this occasion the team equalled Gosford with 392 points with Bill and Alan Seaman scoring 89's and Erin and Gavin both solid with 87's. Well done guys.

Alan Ashworth was top in F Standard with a superb 90 and Erin in good form with 88. Young Angus had a good day by also shooting well in F-TR, top scoring the team with 85.4.

While it was a warm day requiring gazebos and with the addition of some mirage, which may have impacted some F class shooters, scores were generally high at yet another 500 metre shoot.

In Target Rifle, Mark managed to keep it all together when due to miss-fires was forced to change ammo mid 2nd stage to score a hard earned 100.12. Richard was again in good form also getting a double possible with 7 centrals. Bill continues to maintain a high level of consistency with a 99.8 while Don Brook was delighted with his new Bevan Actioned rifle scoring a fine 98.7

Our F Open shooters set the pace on Saturday with Alan Seaman top scoring with 120.10 and 89.6 in the 1st stage. What is not displayed in the results is Alan shot a second stage 15 shot match scoring 90.8. This is a high standard of shooting and yet prior to starting Alan suggested that he was working on his loads as they were not quite right.

David also shot very well in F Open with 119.8 while Erin lead F standard with 116.7.

Dist. 300m 6/1/2024

The first match of the new year was in good conditions however it was noticeably warmer, at least for this old Target Rifle shooter wearing a heavy jacket, when approaching the concreted 300 metre mound.

Bill Ballantyne was in great form and found shooting easy in not loosing a point for the day with a total of 125.13. Well done Bill.

Richard and Phil also did well scoring 98s in Target rifle.

Young Charles Cosgrove was on his way to a first stage possible but regrettably started to think about the result and leaked points. Stay focused on the basic's and the results will come Charles.

Alan Ashworth lead the way in F class with a fine 119.10 using his trusty Barnard in .308. Erin's 117 was a pleasing result in F standard.

In F open, Alan Seaman shot late after assisting our visitors and managed a competitive 118.10. David also shot very well being only 1 super centre behind.
